Solutions for urban drainage research and engineering presented at ICUD 2017
The International Conference on Urban Drainage, held this year in the heart of Europe, in Prague, in the Prague Congress Center, gathered almost 700 participants giving about 400 oral and 100 poster presentations. It was the occasion to exchange ideas and experience, but also to develop new ideas together on urban drainage. The main topics were: urban hydrological processes; transport and sewer processes; drainage impacts; sustainable drainage and impact mitigation; tools, techniques and analysis; and water management and society.
Four research works using UBERTONE profilers were presented:
- Towards an improved characterisation of suspended solids in sewers using acoustic backscattering, F. Blumensaat, P. Weber, S. Ibric and S. Fischer
- SSC characterisation with acoustic turbidity using linear regression tools, T. Kletti, S. Fischer, M. Burckbuchler, A. Pallarès and P. Schmitt
- Direct determination of shear stress using in-sewer ultrasonic velocity profiling sensor, V. Bareš, M. Jager, F. Blumensaat and S. Fischer
- Suspended sediment monitoring: comparison between optical and acoustic turbidity, A. Pallarès, M. Burckbuchler, S. Fischer and P. Schmitt
We were pleased to meet our partners, customers and future users at UBERTONE’s booth in the exhibition area of the ICUD. We demonstrated our UB-Flow and UB-Lab (with a transducer clamped on the wall) velocity profilers measuring in clear water in a small plastic flume, kindly borrowed from Dr. Vojtech Bares’ Lab. Visitors could evaluate the quality of the measurements as well as the ergonomic user interface.
Beside the conference, we also enjoyed an excellent Gala Diner in the astonishing hall of the Zofin Palace on the Slovansky Island on the Vltava river. Traditional Czech cuisine was served, followed by a concert of the Tap tap orchestra. A very nice discovery!
