ANR-WEST workshop was a successful event, equilibrated between presentations, lab and field demonstrations
The team of the ANR-WEST project (Natural Breaking WavEs and Sediment Transport during beach recovery) organised a workshop at the IUEM in Brest, France from the 9th to 11th of April 2024.
Sessions gathered presentations about:
- Sediment transport under waves
- Instruments and Methods development for the studies in coastal areas
- Morphodynamics of mixt beaches (sand and pebbles)
And two more practical sessions presented:
- the Hydrac data processing tool by Guillaume Froment from LISIC
- Virtual Reality session on a beach
- the calibration tank DEXMES
- WEST mooring structure
- Ubertone’s instruments
Ubertone’s instruments were demonstrated on the DEXMES tank. The UB-Lab P was measuring through the wall with a 3MHz transducer for velocity profile measurements. The UB-SediFlow was measuring from the water surface the backscattered echo amplitude profiles, which can be inverted to get information on SSC and grain size.
On the last day, a field trip was organised to see two sites on the Crozon Peninsula. These beaches present particular coastal dynamics and geological interests. Ubertone used a very portable and light solution to record some velocity profiles in shallow waters and in a natural wave flume. The UB-Lab P and a 3MHz transducer were simply fixed to a walking pole, allowing real-time visualisation and recording of the measurements.
We would like to thank the organisers and especially France Floc’h and Noémie Fritsch for this very nice and interesting event.
