Excellent conference organisation in Delft: Coastlab2024

The 9th Conference on Physical Modelling in Coastal Engineering, from the 13th to the 16th of May 2024, hosted by the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands, went on very smoothly.

It was a very nice venue to gather and get the opportunity to discuss coastal engineering applications and how acoustic measurements could bring valuable information to this community’s projects.

Delft is a very nice city. The conference opened with an IceBreaking at the city hall, a beautiful Renaissance style building on the market place.

Then, every morning, a boat was available to come from the city centre to the conference venue, accompanied by a few cultural anecdotes !

At our booth we proposed a demonstration on our portable flume of the UVP measurement method, also usable as a high resolution ADCP. UB-Lab P, UB-Lab 3C and UB-SediFlow were exposed.

On Wednesday 15th, the technical tour took us to the impressive Delta flume at Deltares, to a boat tour to the Maeslant barrier and to the Maasvlakte 2 port extension. We finished the day on the Sand Motor beach, where we had a delicious dinner.

The post-conference tour on Friday 17th was an excellent complement to this week, with the Ijmuiden Sea Lock (currently largest in the world!), the Afsluitdijk and Petten Sea Defence, finishing with the open-air Zuiderzee Museum. Upon return in Delft, we lastly shared a marvellous dinner in excellent company.

We would like to warmly thank the organisation for this delightful conference.
